Spizella

Spizella is a word with Latin and Greek origin and it means ‘sparrow’. Spizella is the story of a father and his daughter with troubled family relationships, which have become even more troubled after the death of the mother. The father keeps forcing his daughter to keep the mourning attitude alive and ongoing within the house and he tries to keep his communication with her very limited. This gloomy house is no different than a cage for this timid girl. The strong revival of her childhood memories and dreams by means of a souvenir suitcase left from her mother can bring the girl a glimpse of happiness.

Angiò

Angiò is a work that breathes life into the spirit of Lorenzo Viani, the artist. It is a film by director Leonardo Palmerini, who hails from Viareggio. It is an experimental film that uses live shots processed through digital technology to echo the graphic work of Viani, painter, sculptor printmaker whose etchings exhibit a rare expressive power; it tells the story of Angelo Bertuccelli, who was born in Via Pinciana in Viareggio in 1850. Small of stature with a strong and proud character trapped in a deformed body. Sailor, like the majority of the inhabitants of the Viareggio of those days, who escaped the gail-winds aboard the “Dedalo” and swore never to return to the sea. The “sailor of the Ocean” spends his days in increasing isolation far from the pettiness of people who laugh at his grotesque appearance. In a whirlwind of desperation and rebellion the dwarf with the heart of a giant will end his days overcome by the tides of madness, a man drowned in a deep sea “a man of water” as prescribed by a hostile destiny. Based on the novel “Angiò uomo d’acqua” by Lorenzo Viani.

SeMenti – studio sul paradosso del Mentitore / a study on the paradox of the liar

Ours first work is a filosofical noir: dreamlike fragments experienced by a confused aged man. A strange scenario dominated by a great question that will grip you: would you tighten the noose around the accused’s neck … even knowing that your decision were been taken by others? From what? Counterfeited by the appearance and the fascination of power … spoiled by partial or fake readings, or convinced by the wine that made us drink … or overwhelmed by rules and rules, that can be… the other way round… circumvented with quirks or manipulative words.

Danny is furious – his young beautiful wife hasn’t come home yet again, Danny is convinced she is cheating. Unable to contain his fury and frustration anymore he drives the stolen taxicab prowling the notable spots of the city, including tourist magnets, in search for his chippy wife. All the while Danny is on the cell phone, engaged in a conversation with a friend – (Erik, an immigration lawyer, 40). The latter handled Danny’s case to obtain a green card and both men became friends. Erik acts as a personal psychoanalyst, a shoulder to cry on, as a friend, who listens to the emotional flood erupting from the cell phone and tries to calm Danny down. Erik seems to be aware of the problem and it is obvious the situation has been discussed between the two on a number of occasions in the past. This time everything seemingly played out following the old scenario and was moving towards a peaceful resolution. Erik nearly managed to calm down Danny and convince him to go home and wait for his wife there when, unexpectedly, Danny turns up, in the middle of a night, driving a stolen taxi, right at Erik’s doorstep.

Kalavrìa – the Calabrian Greeks land

Did you know Greeks are still in Calabria? We are talking about a small group of villages where peaple are still retaining the Greek language in order not to lose the cultural roots that still make their world today, after 2700 years, a world of culture, mountains, agriculture, sheep-farming and handicrafts, a world considered too slow by the global economy to be expected and, therefore, abandoned to itself.Project descriptionWe went there, between the coast and the mountains most south of the Italian peninsula, not where everything ends, but where everything began. We did shoot beautiful images with breathtaking views, interviewed Greeks of Calabria trying to describe an almost lost world atmosphere, but still alive, witnessing the cultural and artistic peaks that this unfortunate part of Europe has reached. We are filming a documentary. More specifically, we are creating a document. A mix of images, stories, traditions, music and paths that can offer the beauty of a whole world enclosed in one only work.To tell “Grecanic Area” we have decided to go through it all along and out, starting from its modernity on the coast to the summits of its mountain tradition, breathing the charming atmosphere of the valley of the river Amendolea, the streets of Roghudi Vecchio and the stories of which was theater, and the architectural beauties of Bova. We have been working on this project for three years, documenting the various events of Hellenism that the summer offers, from hiking / interviews to the “Greek week lessons”, to the new museum of Rholfs to Gallicianò, magical place where one feels a still alive language that, despite the venerable age, seeks in all ways not to disappear.

MATA-the island’s gaze

Scottish photographer John Thomson’s trip to Taiwan in 1871 is an important historical event. In this film we selected a hunter photo to re-interpret that event and visit the Siraya tribe to find an Elder, who talks and sings well, bringing us back to the past through his plucking of strings. Then we saw the vigorous hunters holding their breath, staying very still in front of that weird machine for a long time, with a boy and a dog squatted at their feet. The director grabbed the view of this moment and invites the audience to watch with curious eyes. On both sides of the river of time, he repeatedly speculates and watches the past, the future, and the influence of images on this island.

Matera – From the Shame of Italy to the Capital of Culture

The cave city of Matera is one of the oldest continually inhabited spots in Europe. It has been notoriously famous as ‘the shame of Italy’ in the 1950s on the basis of the novel «Christ Stopped At Eboli« by Carlo Levi. In the last few years, however, everything has changed: Matera will be the European Capital of Culture in 2019. And since this decision has been made, buildings are beingrenovated, school classes from all over Italy are being dragged through the narrow streets, and dedicated volunteers are working on all kinds of cultural and other projects, so that Matera will remain an attractive place to live and work.A film about exceptional people in an extraordinary city, and about a question that many other small cities around Europe have to ask themselves constantly: How is sustainable tourism to be promoted?
